Privacy Policy

King of Madurai is operated by Digitalgrub. This policy explains how the King of Madurai mobile app and its supporting service handle information.

Information you provide

King of Madurai does not require an account and does not ask for your email address, contacts, or precise location. It asks for your name, mobile number, and photos only if you post a classifieds listing, as described below; a name you add to a complaint letter in Civic help stays on your device. If you contact support by email, we use the information in your message only to respond and resolve the request.

Saved items and preferences

Saved selections and display preferences are handled locally by the app and are not used to build an advertising profile. Notification choices are the one exception, described in the next section. King of Madurai does not access your contacts, microphone, or precise location. It opens your camera or photo library only when you tap Add photo while posting a listing, and only the photos you choose are sent.

Push notifications

Notifications are off until you turn them on in the app's Account screen. If you do, the app sends our service a push token issued by Apple or Google for your device, the platform it runs on, and your chosen app language, together with the news sections and keywords you ask to be notified about. We keep a record of which stories were sent to your device so that no story is pushed twice. None of this is linked to your name or to any account, and it is used only to decide which notifications to send. Turning notifications off in the app or uninstalling it stops further sends, and tokens that stop working are retired automatically.

Classifieds listings

If you post a listing, the app sends our service what you enter: the category, title, details, price, area, the photos you choose, your name, your mobile number, and whether you use WhatsApp on that number. Photos are re-encoded on our server, which removes their location and other embedded data. Your listing, with your name and number, is shown to people using the app so that they can contact you; the web page for sharing a listing leaves your number out.

Before a listing appears, and again if people report it, its text and photos (but not your mobile number) are checked by an automated review service that uses an AI model provided by Anthropic, to keep out scams and listings that break the rules. Our editors may also review, hide, or remove listings.

The app creates a random identifier that stays on your device and sends it, with your IP address, when you post a listing, add a photo, or report a listing. We use them only to limit how much one device can post and to prevent abuse. A report records the reason chosen and this identifier. The key to each listing you post, and the sellers you choose to hide, are kept on your device.

A listing stays up for 30 days and can be renewed. You can mark it sold or delete it at any time from My listings in the app; deleting it removes the listing and your details from our service at once. A listing that has ended (sold, expired, or not published) is deleted with its photos 30 days after it ends, and photos that were never attached to a listing are deleted within a day.

Power and water outage reports

If you tap that the power or water is out, the app sends our service the kind of outage, the area you chose, and the same random identifier it uses for listings, and our service records your IP address with them. The app shows everyone how many reports each area has had in the last few hours, without the identifier or address. We use the identifier and IP address only to count each phone once and to prevent abuse. Reports are deleted after seven days.

The complaint letter in Civic help is written on your device. The letter and the name, street, and other details you enter are not sent to us; they go only where you choose to copy or share them.

App purchases

King of Madurai is free and has no in-app purchases. Earlier App Store purchases were processed by Apple. Digitalgrub does not receive or store your full payment-card information. Apple may provide transaction and sales information under its own privacy terms.

Technical service data

When the app requests content, our hosting systems may process standard technical data such as IP address, request time, requested endpoint, device user agent, and error details. We use this information for security, abuse prevention, reliability, and troubleshooting. We do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Advertising and analytics

The current version does not contain third-party advertising, behavioral advertising, or a third-party analytics SDK. We do not track you across apps or websites.

Content sources and external links

The app may display factual summaries and links from government portals, public APIs, local sources, and reviewed community sources. Opening an external link takes you to a third-party service governed by that service's privacy policy.

Sharing and retention

We do not sell personal information. Technical data may be processed by infrastructure providers that help us host and secure the service, listing text and photos are processed by our automated review provider as described above, and information may be disclosed when required by law. Routine server logs are normally rotated within 14 days unless a longer period is needed to investigate security, abuse, reliability, or a legal obligation.

Children

King of Madurai is a general-audience city information app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can turn notifications off at any time from the Account screen or from your device settings, and you can stop all app network activity by uninstalling the app. You can delete a listing you posted at any time from My listings. You may contact us to ask a privacy question or request correction or deletion of information you previously sent to support or posted in a listing.

Policy changes

We may update this policy as the app changes. The effective date above identifies the latest published version.
